Greece Navajo Cove

A beautiful bay surrounded by a high cliff, blue water and wonderful sand – this is the most beautiful postcard from Greece, or more precisely from Navajo Cove. Who wouldn’t want to be there, especially now that it’s freezing outside.
Navajo Cove is the best known beach on the island of Zakynthos. For many people it is called the pearl of the Greek coast, mainly because of the charm of this place, but also because of the history it brings with it. In 1980, a ship called Panayiotis tried to smuggle cigarettes and alcohol from Turkey to Italy. Near the island, the ship was spotted by Greek customs officers who ordered its captain to stop. However, the captain did not obey this order and decided to run away. The chase itself was not his only problem, as the sea was subject to a violent storm that slowed down the ship. At one point, he shallowed, from where the current carried him to the very centre of the beach. The wreck can be admired here to this day. It was thanks to this story that Navajo Cove gained another two names: Shipwreck (shipwreck) and Smugglers Cove (smugglers’ bay).
