Floating Cinema Thailand

Popcorn, armchair, hundreds of people around and huge splendor, or maybe a modest cinema in the azure waters of the sea? It was on the sea that the decision was made to build a unique floating cinema.
The floating theatre was created as part of the Yao Noi Film on the Rocks festival in southern Thailand. The audience was able to experience a one-of-a-kind film show from 9 to 12 March on the island – or rather next to it – Yao Noi.
The whole structure, hidden inside a bay surrounded by high rocks, was designed by German architect Ole Scheeren. He placed the screen on which the films were shown between two rocks. The audience, on the other hand, could take their seats in the open air on the illuminated “raft”. The inspiration for anchoring this platform was the experience of local fishermen, who often build floating rafts for lobster farming. After the festival, it was decided to dismantle the cinema and give it to the Yao Noi community.
Quite an unusual place for such an event, but if the organizers want to surprise the audience even more next year, we are already starting to be afraid.
