Filter types for water

Water supplied to our apartments through the water supply network contains a significant amount of pathogenic chemical compounds. However, it is enough to invest in a special filter to make it drinkable. Different types of filters are available for sale. They differ in application and a few other properties.
Types of filters
Mechanical filters
They are installed at the beginning of the installation. They stop solid contaminants up to 1 micron in size. There are mechanical filters:
with replaceable metal mesh, non-woven polypropylene or cord inserts,
with plastic or stainless steel fixed inserts. Rinse them regularly (at least once a month),
filled with filtration materials, e.g. quartz sand, expanded clay, crushed materials and plastic nonwovens.
Active carbon filters
They are usually installed just before the bactericidal lamp. They remove the chlorine smell and yellowish colour from the water and improve its taste. From time to time they need to be cleaned. Be careful not to let the water stagnate inside the filter, which promote the multiplication of microorganisms.
Iron removers and manganese removers
These water filters make the water cleaner and less cloudy. Thanks to them, the liquid loses its unnatural coloration, which is caused by high concentration of iron and manganese. They are mounted behind mechanical filters and before softening filters.
Softeners
Softeners reduce water hardness. These filters prevent the formation of harmful calcium deposits in pipes, sanitary facilities, kettles and washing machines. The softening filtering process consists in the conversion of calcium and magnesium ions into sodium ions.
Reverse osmosis filters
These are the most effective filters. They fight almost all compounds dissolved or suspended in water. They work slower than other types of filters, but they remove all harmful substances most thoroughly. Filters of this type deal with impurities from 0.1 to 0.001 micrometer in size. However, as they remove valuable minerals from the human body at the same time, it is recommended to install a mineralizer in the last section of the installation – a device that doses the necessary components into the water.
Clean tap water means less plastic waste harmful to the environment and more money in your wallet. Think about how much money you spend each month on bottled mineral or spring water. A water filter is a much more cost-effective solution. Here you will find a wide range of different types of filters.
