Fear of the dentist
Many adults struggle with so-called denthophobia, which manifests itself as a terrible fear of a visit to the dentist’s office.
It is estimated that even every third adult can face such a problem! Unfortunately, appropriate prevention and regular visits to the dentist is the only way to take care of a beautiful smile and the proper condition of teeth and mouth. Currently, there are a number of medical facilities that make the visit to the dentist is quite comfortable and not painful. This includes the possibility of using laughing gas or computer anesthesia, which is very precise and effective.
The degree of complexity
Treatment of minor changes in teeth and cavities is burdened with the necessity of conservative treatment, which is assumed to be very simple, quick and painless for the patient. Treatment of larger lesions may result in the necessity of so-called root canal treatment, which is unfortunately already more complicated. In extreme cases, unfortunately, it is not possible to save all the teeth, which in effect leads to extraction, i.e. removal of teeth. Then it may be necessary to use dental implants (commonly known as artificial teeth), which allow to mask cavities and prevent many diseases, including jaw recession due to the removal of individual teeth.
Fear and awareness
When dealing with the fear of the dentist it is worth to be aware that the dentist is primarily to help. I make every effort to make the treatment as painless as possible for the patient – although, of course, it is not always fully possible. Modern anaesthetics, however, allow you to largely minimize the discomfort felt during dental treatment.
When visiting a selected dental office, it is worth discussing your problem and fear with your dentist. Thanks to this, it is possible to obtain an individual approach of the dentist to a given problem and develop a specialized technique that aims to minimize anxiety and fear – for example, breaks during drilling on the patient’s mark (e.g. raising a hand). Thanks to this, you can easily convince yourself of the need for treatment and prevention.
