Are you going on a long journey? See what you need to check out!
Before every long journey by car, you need to get a good night’s sleep and rest, but not only the driver needs to be prepared – the vehicle, which we will travel, should undergo a technical inspection, so that the trip goes without any problems.
Checking the technical condition of your car
If the car is in good technical condition, you can inspect it on your own. If you don’t know your stuff, it’s better to leave it to the professionals – a visit to the workshop before the long journey will certainly not hurt.
You can start with a visual inspection of the engine compartment and wheel area in search of possible leaks of brake fluid, cooling fluid or oil. If you do not observe any leaks, you can proceed to check the level of individual fluids – if they are normal, the vehicle should be operational. If the car, which we are going on the route, usually serves us to move around the city, it is worth checking its capabilities with full heating of the engine and greater performance, it is a guarantee that while moving on the highway or expressway, for example, the engine will run smoothly. It is also worth to perform one strong braking in order to control ABS. Another very important issue is tyre pressure – if the pressure in one of the wheels is lower or higher, it is worth visiting a vulcanizer. A self-service car inspection should not last longer than half an hour – such a short inspection, however, is able to exclude any possible defects.
Inspection of the contents of the boot
Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict what will happen on the road, so it is always worth having such things as a warning triangle, a reflective vest, a lift, a spare wheel and a first aid kit in your trunk. Every driver should also be provided with a repair kit, i.e. fuses and spare bulbs.
Travel abroad
If you are going abroad, it is a good idea to check which regulations apply in your country. insurance protects us only within the European Union, if we go to Macedonia, Albania, Belarus or Russia, for example, we have to buy a Green Card. Insurance holders must make sure that the policy will work in the country they are planning to go to, as the scope of cover may vary. It is best to follow the GTC carefully to make sure that we can count on compensation, for example, in the event of a collision or theft of a vehicle.
