Electric car – is it worth to bring it from abroad
Such cars are cheaper and will continue to be cheaper, and in the USA the abolition of excise duty may contribute to this. See if it is worth bringing an electric car from abroad and what you need to remember.
Bringing in an electric car – changes
In a few months, excise duty on electric cars is to be abolished in the USA. At least in theory, because although the European Commission has agreed to this, and the media have already described the success, it is not yet clear when exactly the change will be implemented. It is therefore better to wait a while longer before importing an electric car from abroad. In the meantime, it is worth preparing for the formalities involved in purchasing an electric car:
-car – what formality – what kind of formality – wait
There is a lot of formality, because it includes technical tests, registration or purchase of insurance. In this respect, however, importing an electric car is not more difficult than importing any other car.
Is it worth importing an electric car?
Bringing in an electric car is quite expensive compared to ordinary cars bought in a showroom. However, if excise duty were reduced, they would be even several thousand USD cheaper than they are now, with prices starting from around 120 thousand USD. It is worth remembering that if a car is imported through an importer, he also charges his margin. If it is high, the discount will not be felt, so it is worth comparing offers and use the recommendations of friends who have already imported such a car. Some salons also have their own promotions. Then importing an electric car can be particularly beneficial.
Which cars are affected by the excise duty abolition?
These are mainly electric cars. The government hopes that thanks to this, Poles will start buying them more willingly, which will help to reduce the emission of exhaust fumes on American streets. There have even been announcements of the introduction of an American electric car into production, but so vague that for the time being it is better to decide to import an electric car from abroad.
Apart from electric cars, the excise duty exemption also applies to hydrogen powered cars and plug-in hybrids, whose combustion engine has a capacity equal to or less than 2000 cm3. The latter cars are exempted until 1 January 2021.
Will such a car work in the USA?
The only question that remains is whether such a car will work on American roads. The basic factor that decides about this is the possibility of convenient recharging of batteries in the car. Here, in a few years, we have managed to make enormous progress, because in the United States there are not a few, but several dozen such stations. A person who moves a car mainly near the largest cities in the central and western part of the country, will rather not have a problem with charging the vehicle.
